Argentina in Pictures and postcards: Bariloche
Just after arriving
Looking towards the city of San Carlos de Bariloche. This picture was taken just after we arrived for the Christmas weekend, 1995. It was the strangest sight: We flew from Buenos Aires right across Argentina, towards the South American Andes. The country looks a lot like the Orange Free State and Karoo (areas in South Africa), with dirt roads running straight as arrows all over the countryside. The suddenly you start seeing pointy hills and mountains, some of them with snow on their tops. The airport where we landed (that is a story in itself! LOL) is in a dry area, but within 15 minutes of driving you are surrounded by lush green forests and the beautiful lake. Rainfall changes from something like 15mm per year to 2000mm per year in less than 70km!
