San Carlos de Bariloche
Marlene and Arno with our boys Jaco (right) and Theo.
The picture was taken in December 1995 at San Carlos de Bariloche
in Argentina.
The lake behind us is part of the Nahuel Huapi, meaning "island of
the tiger" (see History). On this lake, halfway
round the world, Arno taught the boys to bounce rocks on water. The water
is very blue, and the beach is not sand, but round pebbles.
Jaco and Theo plays in front of the Civic Centre while Arno studies
the map. Bariloche is a lovely city, and much bigger than we thought it
would be. It is the ski-heaven of Argentina, and during the winter people
flock there to make use of the ski slopes.
