We were on top of the mountain! Ski lifts took us up and we could look
around to our hearts' content.
On the first day out, we met some people from Switzerland, who quickly became friends. Joe, Rosmarie and their son Michael commented all the time on how much Bariloche looked like Switzerland.
The Riederers in front of us on yet another ski lift to the top of
the mountain. It is unbelievably quiet while the lift takes you up, up
and up through the forest. Not a sound is heard, only some birds here and
there. But no cars, no traffic, no people. It is like entering a whole
new world.
Down in the village, Rosmarie had a "competition" in the chocolate shop, to decide if Bariloche chocolate is as good or better than Switzerland's. Her "verdict"? The chocolate is very good, but "Swiss is better." On the nougat, she said it is just as good as the Swiss. Well, there you have it!
Down in town again (it has about 90 000 permanent residents) we followed
our noses to the delicious smell of chocolate! The boys couldn't believe
their eyes. Well, frankly, neither could we. This picture was taken in
the Fenoglio shop, but a little further down in the same street is the
Turista chocolate shop. One hint: When you buy chocolate, go for the more
expensive range. They have a wonderful taste.
Another picture showing two little boys enjoying themselves thoroughly!
All over Bariloche you will find people with St Bernard dogs. For a fee
you can pose with the dogs and an enlargement of the picture is dropped
of at your hotel the next day. When we posed for our picture, the photographer
was kind enough to allow us to take some more ourselves. The guide's comment
was that the dogs are "so well trained, they smile at the camera" - well,
it looks like it, doesn't it?
