Here you meet our friends, the Riederers. Michael is on the left, Rosmarie
sitting and Joe on the right. It was great discovering everything with
them.
Our little tour bus was a real "Tower of Babel" with 11 people speaking
5 or 6 languages! The guide spoke only Castellano, the Argentine dialect
of Spanish. One gentleman translated for us. His wife was French, and her
sister, who could speak only French and some English, were in front of
us. We spoke Afrikaans, and the Riederers spoke German (or a Swiss dialect).
One person was from Spain.
Well, you can imagine the confusion! But we quickly started translating
for each other. It got so bad that the poor guide had to put his hand up
to get a word in edgeways! It was great fun.
One of the Riederers took this picture, just before we entered the
endangered and unique redwood forest.
There is a boardwalk and you'd better not be caught off it! No leaf
or twig may be taken from this forest. Trees take many, many years to grow.
The trees are related to the Bluegum, but very red in colour. The tree
in front of Jaco is about 80 years old.
This forest can only be reached by boat. It is on an island and was
used for the filming of the Disney movie, Bambi (not the animation
film).
