The Bold and the Beautiful
A Game Warden feeding one of the beautiful cats. As part of the project
to protect these beautiful creatures, visitors older than 16 can pet a
cheetah for a small fee. You can also adopt a cheetah or sponsor one.
The cheetah raised on this farm are born and bred here; they are not taken out of the wild. The cheetah is the only large cat that can be tamed and remains tame. All the others become unpredictable and wild again as they grow up.
Like to hear the sound of a South African cheetah?
This realistic "statue" of a full-grown Nile crocodile had many people do a double take at the Ranch.
My mom holding a baby crocodile!
In January 1980, just before I had to report for my year of volunteer army service at the Army Women's College in George, South Africa, my mom and I stopped at this same ranch. While looking at the crocodiles, her purse fell into the cage. The person explaining about the crocodiles didn't know what to do. He was alone, and if he put the baby croc down to pick up the purse, he wouldn't have been able to catch it again without a big struggle. Mom (Martie Ziehl) offered to hold the croc while he picked up the purse. The poor man was in a fix, because even a young croc like this one can bite off your finger. But mom thought it was a big thrill!
This male peacock was trying his best to impress a female.
