Holland in Pictures and postcards
Cleaning the canals
"Collecting the garbage" takes on a whole new meaning in Amsterdam! There are hundreds of house boats in the city, so garbage collection is very important. Also, because the streets are narrow and there are now barrier between street and canal, lots of vehicles end up in the canals. If a car falls in, the owner must pay for its extraction. Looking at this postcard, it looks like bicycles falling into the water are left there.
