We spent only a night in London, which is really not enough to say we saw much of it. After all, it has about 10 million inhabitants and has been the largest city in Western Europe since 1700!
But we did go on one of the Red buses and we stopped at the favourite tourist sites ...
This picture was taken inside the gardens of the
infamous Tower of London, with the Tower Bridge behind us. According to
John, the particular blue shade used on the Tower Bridge was the favourite
colour of Queen Victoria.
This is the background of the visit to London: John and I have been corresponding via Internet for more than a year. When the time came for us to leave South Africa for Canada, we decided to break the trip in England. The boys and I went on ahead, while Arno finished the last few things in South Africa.
We flew out of South Africa on Jaco's 8th birthday. The excitement was really too much to handle, and the poor chap had a very rough flight over to England. But British Airways was wonderful, and took great care of him. They also made a big fuss because it was his birthday - and Theo was not left out.
We arrived at Heathrow and only waited about 10 minutes for John and Fran to appear - what a strange feeling to finally meet someone you have only seen on pictures!
We were whisked away, and then had to find some place to stay before hitting the city and the Red buses.
