...BEING WICCAN...

Being Wiccan is a big part of my life... One of the first things a lot of people will ask when they find out that I'm a Witch is:
"Does that mean you're some sort of devil worshiper that sacrifices babies and animals?
NO.... The devil isn't even a concept that I believe in... wrong religion... And for the animals and babies thing, I'm an animal lover, NEVER would I ever hurt a defenseless creature of this earth put here to give us joy or to nourish us for no reason what so ever except to just see it die...NO, Not gonna happen. I don't even like to go fishin, cuz I feel it hurts the poor little fish. Ok, If it came down to me having to kill an animal for food in order to live, yeah I would do it. But till then, that's what Taco Bell is for!
 And babies..
OH P L E A S E ! ! !  DO you think we cultivate them on a farm just so we can slice one up every full moon and new moon??? Come on people, nine months a kid, 12-13 full moons a year, 12-13 new moons a year... Think about it, That would be a heck of a lot of kids to try to pop out....
The best way I have found to explain this to people is by telling them this:
"Wiccans are like the ultimate pacifists, We don't hurt people, we wont hurt animals, and if we could get away with it, we wouldn't hurt grass even..."
But still, people will have their preconceived ideas about us, no matter what one, two or even one thousand people might say to change their minds. All any of us can do, is try to educate the ones with open minds that are willing to learn the truth. And that's why I decided to add this section to my page. Hopefully I can open even one eye of someone.... That's all any of us can ever hope.
So now on to the bit more interesting stuff....
The Rede is sortta like our code of honor, It's a set of guide lines we try to live our lives by. For me personally... I feel the first two, and the last two lines are the most important... but like I said, that's just me personally. And here it is, read it for yourself.

Wiccan Rede

Bide the Wiccan Laws we must
In perfect love and perfect trust.
Live and let live,
Fairly take and fairly give,
Cast the Circle thrice about
To keep the evil spirits out.
To bind the spell every time,
Let the spell be spake in rhyme.
Soft of eye and light of touch,
Speak little, listen much.
Deosil go by the waxing moon,
Chanting out the Witches' Rune.
Widdershins go by the waning moon,
Chanting out the baneful rune.
When the Lady's moon is new,
Kiss the hand to her, times two.
When the moon rides at her peak,
Then your heart's desire seek.
Heed the North wind's mighty gale,
Lock the door and drop the sail.
When the wind comes from the South,
Love will kiss thee on the mouth.
When the wind blows from the West,
Departed souls will have no rest.
When the wind blows from the East,
Expect the new and set the feast.
Nine woods in the cauldron go,
Burn them fast and burn them slow.
Elder be the Lady's tree,
Burn it not or cursed you'll be.
When the wheel begins to turn,
Let the Beltane fires burn.
When the wheel has turned to Yule,
Light the log and the Horned One rules.
Heed ye Flower, Bush and Tree,
By the Lady Blessed be.
Where the rippling waters go,
Cast a stone and truth you'll know.
When ye have a true need,
Hearken not to others' greed.
With a fool no season spend,
Lest ye be counted as his friend.
Merry meet and merry part,
Bright the cheeks and warm the heart.
Mind the Threefold Law you should,
Three time bad and three times good.
When misfortune is enow,
Wear the blue star on thy brow.
True in Love ever be,
Lest thy lover's false to thee.
Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill:
An ye harm none, do what ye will.

See... enlightening, isn't it... makes ya think a bit differently about us wacky witches, huh? We aren't out to try to turn people into toads... most people that deserve that are doing a good enough job of it without our help
 HEHEHEHEHE
Which brings me to the next question that I get the most:
"So, do you , like, do magick spells and stuff?"
Easily answered... "YUP"
Being a witch that doesn't practice magick (yes I know I spelled it with a "k".. there is a difference, but later about that) is like being a fish that doesn't swim in water. It just isn't right.... :) Spell work isn't a major part of being a witch, but it is a part none the less.
Ok, and now the "K"... there is magic, Harry Houdini stuff, smoke and mirrors, slight of hand, and then there is Magick, an energy source in everything around you that can be altered or acted upon by modifying your own life force energy, and directing it towards a specific goal. Or that energy force in something else acting on and altering or effecting your own energy. A.K.A. Spell Work.
And so answers the third most asked question:
"Do you really believe in magick?"
 Again easily answered... "YUP"
And of course after that comes the obvious......
"Then why don't you do a magick spell to become a millionaire?"
Well to answer that, let me tell you a little thing about The Law Of Power, The Law Of Three and The Rule Of Three ...

The Law of Power

The Power shall not be used to bring harm, to injure or control others. (In becoming a millionaire by using a magick spell, I would be taking money from someone that deserves it that earned it.)
But, if the need rises, the Power shall be used to protect your life or the lives of others.
(there are loop holes in magick, if it was a life or death situation, I could do it with no backlash.)
The Power is used only as need dictates.
(I don't NEED to be a millionaire)
The Power can be used for your own personal gain, as long as by doing so you harm none.
(again, loop holes
, but still, I don't NEED to be a millionaire)
It is unwise to accept money for the use of the Power, for it quickly controls its taker.
Be not as those of other religions.
Use not the Power for prideful gain, for such cheapen the mysteries of Wicca and magick.
Ever remember that the Power is the sacred gift of the Goddess and God, and should never be misused or abused.
And this is the Law of the Power.

The Law of Three

The other "Law" of Witchcraft is the "THREE-FOLD LAW OF RETURN".
Basically, this is the natural law of "cause and effect".
The Goddess charges us to exercise great care in all that we, as Witches, do and say and even think.
The Threefold Law takes the notion that "what we reap, we will sow", a few steps further... in fact, THREE steps further.
For what we do "for good or for ill, shall be returned to us threefold."
In light of this fact, Witches are loath to cause any harm, lest it be returned to them in spades!!

The Rule Of Three

Ever mind the rule of three,
three times what thou gives returns to thee.
This lesson well, thou must learn.
Thee only gets what thou dost earn.

  Need I say more?
    OK, OK, OK....
Yes, I have done a money spell....errr, umm I mean Prosperity Spell. And lets just say, I was pleasantly pleased with the results :D... (a $300.00+ check within a weeks time pleased)
But that doesn't mean its ok to just go out and whip out a spell so you can go on a shopping spree. I was in some major trouble, needed help, and it was my LAST resort. L A S T
But now that I've pretty much ran off subject.... Something else I wanted to talk about before I end, are the Sabbats, or Witches Holidays if you will. They are celebrations that mark the passing seasons, and the changes in the cycle of life. Along with the Sabbats, we have Esbats, small festivals during the Full Moon and New Moon. The following are the Sabbats that make up the Wheel of the Year. Most of the Sabbats were adopted by the Catholic and Christian Church in the early times, as a way of making the FORCED conversion from the old Pagan beliefs to The Churches beliefs more acceptable.
 We have eight major holidays:

Samhain October 31
Yule December 21
Imbolc February 2
Ostara March 21
Beltaine April 30
Lammas August 1
Midsummer June 21
Mabon September 21

I'm not going to get into specifics here... so go here if you want more detail on them. It's a lot.
