London: Demonstration of Protest in front
of the US Embassy
4-7pm Friday 29 October
24 Grosvenor Square, London W1A
Nearest tube: Bond Street (Central and Jubilee lines)
No to the North American invasion of Colombia!
Colombia is going through a grave institutional, political and social
crisis - which is surely being made yet worse with the USA’s intention
to promote a military invasion into its territory. This is shown by the
visits of several high officials of the US state such as the anti-drugs
‘czar’, General Barry McCaffrey, the Sub-secretary of State for political
affairs Thomas Pickering and the president of the US Senate. These US officials
have visited Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, Venezuela and Panama promoting
the formation of a multinational force to intervene in Colombia, based
on the argument that the country has become a regional danger.
But this is another stage in the process of US military intervention,
which includes the installation of military bases on the frontiers of Colombia’s
neighbouring countries; radar systems installed in different parts of the
country and increased financial support to the Armed Forces. Colombia has
become the third highest receiver of US military aid after Israel and Egypt.
We call on the Colombian and Latin American communities, our friends
in Britain and in international organisations to join us in a day of protest
outside the US Embassy in Britain.
