Could you retransmit to appropriate web sites for me? I think all Screaming Eagles should know that we’ve been stiffed by Spielberg & Hanks who are making gazillion $ from SAVING PRIVATE RYAN but who won’t pop for a donation to the 101^st Monument at Ft. Campbell.

As the fund raising director I wrote them both last summer(c/o Dreamworks) asking for a donation. Never heard from Hanks. Spielberg’s secretary wrote back, "Sorry, he’s donating to the D Day Museum in New Orleans." As if he couldn’t donate to both!

I have a special message for WW II Currahees. Apparently Spielberg & Hanks want to do an HBO film based on Ambrose’s book BAND OF BROTHERS, the story of E Co., 2^nd Bn, 506^th in WW II. It’s a fine book and ought to make a fine movie, but since the cooperation of Currahees will be necessary let’s ask for something in return from these Hollywood billionaires. $50,000 from each of them to the Monument is not an unreasonable request at all, and it’s tax deductible. They both have the donation form. If they’ve thrown it away I’ll be glad to provide them more.

To sum up, it was the blood of Screaming Eagles that earned our fame. Hollywood wants to trade on that fame but not trade anything for it. Tell Spielberg/Hanks that no matter how good their movies are—RYAN is up for the Oscar for best picture—they won’t be remembered the way the Monument will.
